Retro Movie Moments - Zorro, the Gay Blade

There is lots of bodice ripping, testicle tingling excitement over a Zorro reboot where our hero might be fighting and using a laser blade to leave his trademark Z. Maybe I'm old fashion (yes, I only own the first generation I-Pad and I like it), but after the George Hamilton portrayal of this old school superhero, why would you want to mess with perfection? Oh Hollywood, you are funny with your little reboots. It's so cute.

Happy Stoner's Holiday - Weed Card

A double post today because I love you, Mary Jane!

Special thanks to Sean for passing this on over to me.

St. Willie Wishes You a Great Stoner's Holiday

Just in time for Spring, another April 20th has arrived to give us all an excuse to overdue it. Drunks have their holiday and we have ours (to be honest, I actually celebrate both). So whether you roll it, pack it, eat it, or whatever, have a hazy, lazy THC filled day. Follow the lead from the man who smoked a joint on the roof of the White House and indulge today. If you didn't take today off, 4:20 is pretty close to quitting time so if your boss gives you crap, tell them the red headed stranger said it was OK. I'm sure they'll understand.

The Incredible, Indelible Enter the Void

Quentin Tarantino told me to never name drop. OK, that's a lie, but I did read about Enter the Void on his list of top 20 films of 2010. (For the record, it made the top 10 at number ten.)

This film tests the limits of the audience, it's characters and plot itself in many good ways and bad. Smoke up & watch or just sit & watch, but just go watch this. It will upset you, bore you, frustrate you, challenge you and make you want to turn it off, but sit your asses back down, shut your mouths, and watch it all the way through. You can revel in a recent movie which is able to blend experimental film making with traditional storytelling and really, really big concepts without falling apart midway through. Sometimes it hurts to use more than 10% of your brain, but try it.

If he were still around, Kubrick would have liked this one.

Putting the High in Your Highness

I fell for the charms of Danny McBride watching Kenny Powers be a complete ass episode after episode in Eastbound & Down. That character owes everything to his first starring roll in The Foot Fist Way, but I digress. Your Highness is a stoner comedy tipping a joint towards the great sword & sorcery schlock fest of the 80s which produced films like Krull, Sword and the Sorcerer, Excalibur and Willow. Be it swords, stoner jokes, or Natalie Portman in a metal thong, I think this one might be worth a matinee viewing.

A Serbian Film (Scares Me)

I'm not sure if my little THC addled brain can handle this sort of thing (I'm still a little intimidated to watch a movie starring asses to mouths to asses), but it looks like this is a movie which will stick in your brain like a jagged piece of rusty metal. I don't think I would watch this high or at night, but than again, I do double check my front door to assure it is locked and peek into the closets before tucking myself into bed. View cautiously, fellow stoner filmgoers!

Special thinks to Chris for reminding me I don't want to see this film.

Retro Movie Moments - Journey to the Center of the Earth

My move to Los Angeles is complete. I've found the grocery store, located a few small movie theaters in the neighborhood and secured an appointment with a weed doctor for my own Los Angeles minted, medical marijuana card. For some reason, the 1959 Journey to the Center of the Earth has been on my mind this past week while moving all my crap. Maybe it is about moving into the belly of the beast of Southern California. Maybe it is about leaving the safety of the familiar. Or maybe it's about never being able to go home again after you've left a place you used to refer to as home. I suppose home is wherever you go...so here I am, here I go.
