Thanks to the wonderful world of porn, most of our favorite movies have been bastardized, slightly renamed and cast with naked people. I consider porno a genre like horror or science fiction, but people just
end up fucking, often. That is the character development.
I went on IMDB to get a little more background on Babe Runner. Before writing up my posts I do a fair amount of research on that site. It turns out, IMDB has singled out pornographic films completely and does not include them. Thankfully, the World Wide Web is a bountiful place. In a few brief searches I was rewarded with the Internet Adult Film Database. So now I have a go to place for other films which don't measure up to IMDB's prudish standards. I can also do a filtered word search using fisting and DPP as selections. The internet is a many splendored place.

Cosmopolis: The Don DeLillo Feature
I've read pretty much everything published by Don DeLillo. You could even say that I developed an unhealthy fascination with this very famous novelist, almost like one of the characters in his books. I haven't really been excited about anything since Underworld, but I felt the old tug of obsession unhealthily kicking in when I saw the trailer for Cosmopolis. I even went through my bookshelves to determine I hadn't given away or sold my first edition copy (I still have it). This is the first feature of a DeLillo novel brought to the big screen. (Game 6 doesn't count; he only wrote the screenplay and the movie sucked). This looks like it might be pretty great with Robert Pattinson in front of the camera and David Cronenberg behind it. Until it is released, I will count the days and perhaps re-read the book.
By the way, Don, I'm still waiting for you to write me back. Why won't you write me back?
Update: This film feels much more like a play. It has some terrific ponderous dialog between characters which is ripped directly from DeLillo's book

Retro Movie Moments - Blue Velvet
David Lynch is the tour guide to what's really behind the Norman Rockwell America often portrayed. He warns us that all is not as it seems with the squeaky clean, fresh faced girl who stealthily carries a raging STD. Or the helpful neighbor who lets you borrow his hose, but wears a leather teddy underneath his suit and loosened tie. And the politician whose done so much good for unwed mothers and the homeless, but can't get away from late nights cruising young hustlers and likes a pinch of PCP in his weed.
Mr. Lynch enjoys making the beautiful ugly and the bizarre thought provoking. Eraserhead is a perfect examples and it changed how I thought about film. He continues to do such interesting work. His repertoire has involved tinkering with music, but he released a solo album late last year. If you've not heard Crazy Clown Time, go out and get it. Lynch has conjured all the creepy haziness and late night weirdness he has shown on the screen into an audio experience. I look forward to any of his new projects, whatever they may be.
Update: The world premier of the video for David Lynch's Crazy Clown Time will be on Friday, March 29th before the Zulawski showing for L'Amour Braque @ Cine Family.

Happy Marathon Day, LA!
Congratulations to all who ran & especially those who finished. I have no desire to do this sort of thing, but I'm glad the weather is cool and a little cloudy for all you runners today.

Marijuana Movie Night: Year II
Two years ago, I started this blog. The intent of it was to bring the weed smoking, movie loving fans of the world a little closer together. It's done just that. It's even morphed into MMN events too which I find deeply satisfying. I'm happy to be doing my part. Keep on coming back.

This House is (Not) Clean
I've been challenged by different films before, but it was a matter of poor stoner judgement and not the film I was trying to watch (actually, that's not true at all). It took me three times to finally sit all the way through House. I could blame this on starting the movie way too late in the evening, but the real story is that a little puff turned into a full bore opium-like marathon session. I was surprised I was even able to load the disc into the player each time (I think I have mentioned before how my technical skills go dark during imbibing hours). Anyway, I finally watched the entire thing in one sitting.
This psychoactive Japanese horror film is basically a haunted house story, but one you have never seen before. Imagine if some little girls who loved Hello Kitty were to remake Suspiria (subsequently both film came out in 1977). House is what the outcome would look like. Director Nobuhiko Ohbayashi actually consulted with his young daughter when he was writing the script. He wanted the film to feel like an unreal, child's fever dream. A piano eats a girl, household items viciously attack, a decapitated head becomes a watermelon and then a head again (this happens a few times). Don't try to predict what will happen. You will simply not get in front of this film. Sit back and take it in. It really is worth a few viewings so I guess my multiple attempts was exactly the correct way to see this.
Two final notes: House is available in Blu-Ray from the The Criterion Collection. If you can see that version, do.
After you watch this, go find and watch the now defunct IFC show Food Party. If show creator Thu Tran was not heavily influenced by House, I need to get a hold of whatever prescription she has been given by her doctor.

Retro Movie Moments - Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
I don't know what is considered Jim Carrey's best film, but when it comes to a cheap high with a cheap laugh, this could be a good pairing. You could probably go with some huffing if you are short on weed funds, but that is ill advised talk. Remember, don't always take my advice. I'm not a doctor.

Nazis From the Moon
When it comes to the movies, it's really hard to not love the enemy we love to hate. The Nazis have been holed up on the dark side of the moon and they are ready for revenge. The Fourth Reich might be very close to happening especially with what looks to be President Palin in charge. But in all seriousness, if you want to see this, go to their site and demand this movie get distribution to a theater in your city.
On a enthusiastic side note, I'm very excited to see the prolific and talented Udo Kier as the Nazi leader. He has worked with a amazing variety of people including Andy Warhol, Gus Van Sant, Lars von Trier, Pamela Anderson, Don Johnson, John Malkovich, Willem Dafoe, Uwe Boll, Rob Zombie, Keanu Reeves and many others.
