It's hard not to make the obvious comparisons to Slap Shot so I won't do it (even if I just did). Seann William Scott has come a long way since Stifler even if most people remember him best for that role. In Goon, he plays dumb very convincingly without ever giving even a subtle wink at the camera. Liev Schreiber steals all of the scenes he is in much like when he played Hugh Jackman's brother in that other comedy X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
I will admit to teared up at the artistic arc of one man's tooth being knocked out of his head by another. Beauty comes in many forms. So just like a regular hockey game, watch it for the fights, but the film is pretty entertaining too.
